Dear All,
Forgive my forwardness, but I would like the groups? feedback to some questions.
First, let me shed some light on my background:
I am currently moving into the field of music/sound design for picture, from a career as a performing musician (keyboards) and have a digital studio capable of industry quality results. I reside in London but will shortly be relocating to Norfolk after years of schlepping round town as a jobbing keyboard player, I am 29 years of age, and Music College trained to postgraduate level and can cover most musical styles. I have no showreel to speak of, but, for example, enjoyed success by composing the music for the Nintendo 1080 Snowboarder advertising campaign through the Leagas Delaney agency.
In the very near future I am going to acquire a Mac G4 so as to cope with digital video and will be looking for projects that will need to farm out the music/sound design to specialist souls such as myself.
My questions are:
1) Do you have any contacts who would require a music/sound designer for ANY project, unpaid or otherwise? (money is not an issue, as long as the project is something I can believe in)
2) Do you know of any resources I could tap into to push my services? (Internet sites, Arts Clubs etc.)
I thank you in advance for any feedback you can give.
Kind regards
Josh Daniels

Wow!
We actually have someone on this board who IS successful!
I hope you got my E-mail earlier.
I am very interested in contacting you about my film.
Although it's nowhere near ready, I haven't even thought about the music score of it.
I am not a musician myself, I have a few friends who are in a band, but as they are folk, I don't think their music woulkd suit my film.
Obviously you must be versatile (It's in your resume), so I am wondering how well you could cope if I basically dumped a script, storyboqrd or film in you're lap and said "Make the music for it".
If the answer is yes, could you design it from the script, or would you need to see the finished, edited product?
You also mention you're getting a mack G4 for Video editing. Does this mean you're going to offer editing services as well?

Hi Josh
In a couple of months Ill have a section of my film finished, about 30 -40 minutes long, and Ill need a soundtrack, a bloody good soundtrack (im looking for a cross between... african drumming and drum and bassy techno with effects thrown over the top - the idea is something along the lines of Tribal and Earthy, sinister and driving, but with a few light hearted moments...a touch of east european folk (yiddish fiddle music..) and so on....hmmm does that make sense..?? its a horror by the way). Ive got a few people in mind, but if you'd be interested can you send me your email and Ill be in touch nearer the time?
I cant promise anything, but if you are slightly interested I can send you a copy of the film when its done and you can decide.... and take it from there...?
My email is: [email protected]
Cheers

hi eddie,
thanks for your interesting reply.
i visited your web page and have to say that i am interested in coming "on board" one of your projects.
i think the best way to proceed is if i send you some short mp3's of some of my sound design (they wont be any bigger than 200-250kb), and for you to decide if you like it.
btw, the brief you gave in your reply sounds like something i could quite easily do a reasonable job with, not confusing at all.
oh, i need your e-mail to send my files to.
kind regards
josh daniels

Hi Josh,
You sound like a useful guy to have around!! I know its really short notice but I have a documentary I have to edit tommorow (Tue 22 Aug) and I was just about to try and sort out the music myself (I'm petrified - I tried it before and it didn't work!!) The documentary is increadibly boring and about education (don't tell anyone else involved I called it boring!!) If you happen to pick up this message in the next few days and think you can help me please get in contact.
Anna
